Lows and Highs

Last week ended on a low when we heard the news that Grandpa Harry had passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 8th. I am so happy that I was able to make it home for the holidays and that we celebrated Christmas with him. He sat at the head of the table and each and every aunt and cousin was there. I have so many wonderful memories of Grandpa - playing "boogie-man" in the basement (We'd hide as kids and he'd come looking for us with the lights off and a flashlight under his chin which made him look really scary!), counting the huge jar of pennies he had at his house every time we visited and as I got older, hearing about all his travels around the world. I know he passed away knowing how much everyone loved him. I will post a link to his obituary/guest book for those that are interested.
On a high note, Matt and I competed in the first race of the Island Race Series - The 30th Annual Pioneer 8km. All past winners had been invited back and it was the BC Road Race Championships - so needless to say the pace was fast!
Here are our results:
Matt finished 219 out of 630 overall; 21 out of 28 in his age group (Men's 30-34) with an official time of 35 minutes 45 seconds (4:28 minutes/km; 7:12 minutes/mile).
Amber finished 377 out of 630 overall; 17 out of 28 in her age group (Women's 30-34) with an official time of 40 minutes 19 seconds (5:02 minutes/km; 8:07 minutes/mile).
This weekend we are heading to Whistler for a training weekend with Matt's Ironman coach but also have the Montgomery family in our thoughts at this difficult time. A
